The Treadway Tire Company:
Job Dissatisfaction and High Turnover at the Lima Tire Plant
1. Introduction.
This case describes the problem with high turnover of employees at the Lima Tire Plant.
The main “Turnover” problem is related to floor-level managers called line foremen. The turnover rate of foremen was higher at Lima than at other plants in the division. Serious moral issues had been brewing for some time with the line–foreman segment, and their dissatisfaction was beginning to infect the entire plant.
The high rate of turnover, skyrocketing raw material costs, intense global competition all together have a negative effect on the plant performance and profit.
The new Director of Human Resources, Ashley Wall, needed to develop a thorough analysis of the turnover root causes and a specific plan to address these issues.
2. Analysis of consequences of employee dissatisfaction on Treadway Tire Company’s performance
Job satisfaction is an attitude or an internal disposition associated with the working environment and experience. Studies demonstrated that job satisfaction was closely related to job design and the quality of working life.
In accordance to George, J.M., & Jones, G.R. (2008) [1] four factors affect the level of job satisfaction:
* personality,
* values,
* the work situation
* social influence (see Picture 1)
