Abstract
Chapter nineteen of International Business Competing in the Global Marketplace by Charles W.L. Hill is titled Global Human Resource Management. The chapter explores various dilemmas facing todays multi-national businesses. Unbeknownst to most, the complexity of succeeding in countries outside of your own is often times overlooked. This oversight has and will prove detrimental to the success of the operation. The chapter explores expatriate managers, international human resources management, staffing, development, performance appraisal, compensation, labor relations and organized labor.
Introduction
Human resource management refers to the activities an organization carries out to use its human resources effectively. These activities include determining the firm's human resource strategy, staffing, performance evaluation, management development, compensation and labor relations (Hill, 2012). Every organization no matter how large or small has some form of human resource management. Often times, larger organizations have entire departments dedicated to ensuring effectiveness throughout their processes.
From a global standpoint, human resource management is a difficult practice to hone in on. Various issues arise in other nations that do not occur in the home country of the organization....
