Introduction

This document will show the steps to on how to properly add a RAM stick of memory into your computer. The steps will vary since the type of computer may be different than the one used in this document.

The system requirements for adding a RAM stick varies depending on the computer and the operating system that is being used. There are lots of different types of RAM sticks that are on the market today. Depending on the type of computer that you have, you will be using either a DIMM (dual in-line memory module) or a SIMM (single in-line memory module) in your computer. You can read your manual that came with the computer to be sure. If you do not have the manual you can usually find the information on the website of the company that makes your computer. Adding RAM to a computer will help it respond faster and quicker when accessing files.

Before replacing the RAM in the computer one should take prior steps like defragmentation before. If the purpose is just to speed up your computer, then this manual is for that reason. Remember to read the entire manual before attempting to install the RAM module. Doing this will ensure that you will be familiar with what steps and items are necessary, also check out the glossary if you are not sure of a term that is used in this manual.
