Most hotels that offer the complete service to their clients and guests lean more and highly appreciate the food and beverage department not only because the department is a source of revenue to the hotel but also because the effectiveness of the food and beverage department of a hotel helps it to take a more visible and preferred spot in the market place amongst the competitors (Phelan, 2008). Hotels tend to dwell on the Lodging and food and beverage departments because many people are now willing to spend more cash on foodservices. This paper aims to look at the management careers that can be offered within the lodging and food and beverage industries, the comparison and contrast between the General management positions in the two industries. This paper will also look at the growth in employment between these two industries and how the general growth is forecasted within the next ten years.

The lodging and food and beverage industry can offer very many chances for job seekers in terms of careers. Both industries have possible positions like General Manager, Front office manager, food and beverage manager and hotel manager. All these positions hold different responsibilities that need to be observed for the smooth running of the hotel and for the hotel to be competitive in terms of revenue and service provision. Some of the responsibilities might be universal to the running of all hotels and others can be specific to given hotels (O’Fallon & Rutherford, 2010).

Financially, the general manager’s responsibility is to ensure that the hotel achieves its target in terms of revenue. The G.M ensures that there is a budget for the running of the hotel and will forecast the future and expected performance of the hotel.
