Dear Tuesday,

I thought I would write you today and speak about some issues that you may have come across yourself, since you are a Vietnamese- American. I wanted to share with you the trials and tribulations of my race and ethnicity. As you are fully are I am a Native American that has a long history here in the US. Of course this was not the US at the time in which my ancestors were around, but since then plenty of stuff has happened good and bad to our race, and culture.

Throughout history Native Americans, (American Indians) have had a hard time proving their worth among the white man. Religious, social, and political discrimination have been just a few of the problems that have plagued us. Not many people know this but back when Black Americans were inflicted with segregation our people were held to the same substandard ways of life. I bet you did not know we had our own water fountain just like Black Americans, and White Americans did. Even after the Black man was granted citizenship our native people were still not considered us citizens. At one point in history government past legislation called the Indian removal act. This act sent the US military to force our people off of our land. With this “relocation” some natives went west, while some stuck to their “guns” and refused to leave. Many times in history different tribes went to the government to form treaties to allow that particular tribe to stay in their land some were allowed, others were not. Often times after being allowed to stay, our people were still cheated out of our land by the white man. It was not until after WWI that the legislature passed the Native American suffrage act. This act allowed us to leave our reservations to seek better opportunities without recourse. Unfortunately this act of Congress did not exempt us from discrimination. Some tribal members that remained, were still forced to leave land that was ours because the government decided to constructed roads through it....
