Organizational Culture and Behavior

According to Business Dictionary.com., (2010) Organizational culture is the sum total of an organization's past and current assumptions, experiences, philosophy, and values that hold it together, and are expressed in its self-image, inner workings, interactions with the outside world, and future expectations. It is based on shared attitudes, beliefs, customs, express or implied contracts, and written and unwritten rules that the organization develops over time and that have worked well enough to be considered valid. In other words, the organization’s culture is the base of behaviors and responses of the employees. These behaviors are apparent by the way employees execute their tasks in the business. At times, it can be somewhat difficult to buildup an organizational culture because the building of employee assumptions and thinking takes time. Nevertheless, once this is matched, the employees values are impacted. However, it is the responsibility of management to form an organizational culture that will lead and be managed in the same direction. Then, teamwork and efficiency is then followed by a pleasant relationship which can significantly help create a good organizational culture.

Organizational culture and behavior are both related as they each influence one another. Employee behaviors and their response to motivation is continuously studied by managers. These managers will then understand their employees’ behaviors and the reason behind their behaviors. This study will also point out ways to help them become more effective so that they can form and use full potential and bring more productive individuals to the organization.
