The ethics simulation contained two scenarios in which I was asked to view my understanding of ethics, virtue, values, and moral concepts in business. Virtue is another way of saying moral excellence or righteousness. A value is something we hold dear, an ideal, for example; freedom is a value that I consider very important in my life. The ethics simulation put forth two scenarios, before I can explain the scenarios I need to give a quick background of the company introduced by the simulation. The company, G-BioSport, markets leading edge sports nutrition and supplement products.

Scenario One

In the first scenario, I was informed that the company had a trace contaminant present in 100% of the samples received by the lab. The contaminant, GBS-Fibranafren, was below FDA standards but above internal standards. The contaminant had an extremely low chance of causing an adverse reaction in healthy adults and those with compromised immune systems still had a low risk of any adverse reaction as well. I decided to disseminate information on increased risk, and allow consumers to make an informed choice. I decided to go with this path because, although the contaminant was below FDA standards it was above the company’s and we had a duty to our consumers to at least inform them that our product although safe, did have a trace contaminant in it.

Scenario Two

In the second scenario, I was informed that the FDA had changed it’s standards of GBS-Fibranafren, and our products no longer were below FDA standards. However there were many overseas markets that still allowed for our product to be sold. I was then asked if we should sell to those overseas markets or not and to explain why I choose what I did. I choose to not sell to other countries any product that can’t be sold in the U.S., because some countries fail to protect their citizens.
