Running head: THINKING CRITICALLY SIMULATION REVIEW

Thinking Critically Simulation Review

Abstract

Our learning team assignment this week was to take part in a simulation that would force us to think critically about a set of issues facing an ailing electronics store. These issues could be real or perceived, and it was our task to discern the true problems from their effects. We had to use problem evaluation tools and techniques to complete our tasks. We were also asked to analyze the outcome of our decisions. What follows is a summarization of the simulation's content and our findings.

Thinking Critically Simulation Review

Our team was asked to complete a simulation that involved making decisions about an ailing electronics store. These decisions ranged from employee-related to sales and inventory-based. The goal was to think critically about the situation and make the necessary decisions that would balance the needs of all stakeholders. Each team member ran through the simulation more than once to be able to receive a true sense of the purpose and goals of the exercise. This paper will document both the simulation itself, the methods used to make decisions and the outcome of our problem-solving processes.

Evaluation tools and techniques

In the simulation, the rational decision-making model and techniques was found to be the most relevant evaluation tool and technique used. The strategy of the company was to use the critical thought and determine the best strategy for the highest volume of sales and production. The strategy is the positioning of a firm in its environment to provide it with the capability to succeed, and strategy is also a pattern in the stream of decisions (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2008). The development of a stronger management structure and a higher focus on the retention of employees to continue in the competitive environment is key ingredients in the improvements to the company’s role. An...
