Week 2 Discussion #1

"Segmentation at the Grocery Store" Please respond to the following:

Pick an aisle in a grocery store; for example, the cereal or snack aisle, or a specific food (yogurt or baby food, etc.). Analyze the segments that are targeted and be detailed in your response. Provide your rationale with your answer.  

Using the same product category, predict what products in your category will be replaced with new products and new segments. Provide a rationale for your choice.

Going into this question as well as the grocery aisle the cereal aisle is the one that always sticks out to me. When walking down a cereal aisle it is normally just breakfast types of food there, but I notice now for those who are conscience about what they eat, it’s mapped out. Looking to my right and walking down I see nothing but the sweet cereal from Captain Crunch, to Fruity Pebbles that appeals to children. Further down it starts to get more realistic where there's Honey Nut Cheerios, which promotes on its box, lower persons cholesterol to Special K. These cereals are not in any alphabetical order, but they are in order for those who want to eat healthy to those who may have a sweet tooth and don’t necessarily eat candy.

Now that “America” is being more focus on getting people back into shape and promote good food intake for our children it feels refreshing to know when walking in a store there are options presented in groups verses everywhere. Whether a person knows it or not mostly everything in stores are segment, that way when a person is looking for a specific thing and know the group it falls under, they don’t have to be everywhere, just go straight to the destination.

Going back to the cereal aisle, there are hot cereals there as well for those who like grits to oatmeal, it’s something for everybody and every flair. Now if a person really wants to go off into another world, would be the organic aisle for cereal. It doesn’t have an abundance of...
