Communication Arts students have a hard time understanding the world of media. A fieldwork’s objective is to help us students associate ourselves to our future jobs and also to better understand media through a professional’s perspective. For our fieldwork, we chose to interview the marketing people behind Viva Communications Inc. Ms. Mara Navarro and Ms. Franchelle Alberto gladly accepted our permission for interview. Ms. Navarro is the Marketing & Communications Supervisor and Ms. Alberto holds the role of the Marketing Manager for Foreign Cable Channels. Viva Communications Inc. engages in film production, concerts and foreign movies distribution. It was formerly known as Viva Productions Inc.

To start the interview we asked them a basic question: “What are your Marketing Strategies?” Ms. Navarro answered that you have to know the product and the client first. And in their case their clients are the cable operators. She also said that you need to know the market first and their needs, from there they start to think of their marketing strategy. Cable operators have a hard time getting new channels because of limited funds and the competition for subscribers. Ms. Navarro

revealed that to sell the channel and to help them they do road shows and promos for them. So does this mean that it’s a different Marketing Strategy for one cable operator to the next? She answered, “Yes. Of course.”

“What are the disadvantages and advantages of doing different Marketing strategies for different cable operators?”

Ms. Navarro said that when there are two cable operators in one place they have difficulties in maintaining interest.
