Tom Finnis is Technical Operations Manager at help4IT a London, UK based company specializing in outsourced IT support for small to medium enterprises. As well as his Petri articles he also blogs on a range of IT subjects on the help4IT website.

This article highlights how to prepare a plan and budget for implementing VMware Sphere. In detail, the article explains what licensing and bundle kits are needed and available. The article also helps the reader decide how big your virtualization machine needs to be, to fit your needs and how much memory or new hardware will be required. The article will explain how to test your set-up and decide what will need to be implemented, in order to have the system meet client requirements.

The biggest advantage of the article is it is exactly what we are doing. It gives a step-by-step system on how to approach a VMware project. The disadvantage of the article is does not give many details on potential problems.

The group can use this article as a guide or a template for installing the VMware and use as guide for a project plan. When we have a snag with our plan we can return to this article for guidance.

VMware is the author of this guide and is the number one resource to gain information about VMware from.

This article explains how an ESX server can maintain the needs of a complex network. The article also talks heavily about virtual switches. The author explains how they are used to provide connectivity between the virtual servers and how different protocols are used for different applications.
