Kudler Data Table Analysis
Kudler Fine Foods is a gourmet food store that provides top-of-the-line products to numerous locations. In this brief, the design of the data tables will be analyzed from an accounting standpoint, an entity relationship diagram will be used to describe the current data tables, and recommendations will be made to make better use of the existing data tables. Also a pivot table was constructed to illustrate how Kudler can benefit from the structure and functions.
At first glance, Kudler’s data tables are effortlessly laid out and easy to understand by anyone with or without an accounting background. Every inventory item is designated by a general ledger code that can be broken down by location; the first two numbers of the GL code specifies either La Jolla, Del Mar, or Encinitas. Every line in the data table also specifies a description of the specific item, the department, and the cost to Kudler. This information combined with one another can help Kudler analyze the amount of inventory in stock as well as departmentalized sales and overstocked produce or goods. To develop Kudler’s inventory data, a few changes can be made, however.
Entity relationship diagrams are used to illustrate the relationship between entities and their corresponding associations. Different shapes are used to represent relationships and lines connect rectangles, diamonds, and ovals to represent associations. As shown in Appendix A, rectangles represent entities or the concept about the data that is stored. Diamonds denote the nature of the relationships and ovals signify characteristics of the entities (Bagranoff, Simkin, & Norman, 2008).
