SONA 2012 REFLECTION PAPER

To be completely honest, I was really surprised to hear that the economy of the Philippines has improved by so much. As a student and a citizen of the Philippines, of course I am greatly affected by the changes happening in the economy. I feel obliged to be part of the working force and contribute to the growth of the economy by maximizing my studies and use my abilities and newfound knowledge for the better.

After watching the SONA, I believe the most important aspect it taught me is to have faith, believe and act. I know people, especially the Filipinos have this attitude to depend solely on prayers to fix their problems, but in this situation, it took a president with an intention and initiative to serve his country and its people to actually reform and create progress for everyone’s sake. He inspired me to believe that even the worst of times can be manageable and treatable. The Philippines, who has happened to be ruled by corrupt presidents in the past, had me thinking solely that “the economy can only get worse.” I never believed in the reformation and progress/development in our system because we are ruled by so many corrupted leaders whom I happened to have dealt with personally. I think this is one of the reasons why I grew up with the mindset of change is highly impossible for our country. This was changed greatly by all the accomplishment that the President stated during the SONA. He did not only believe that he can do things, he did things and still has better things planned for the future.

Another regard I would want to commend is that all the projects that Noynoy has done is not only for the benefit for the people in the government, his projects are actually for the people of the country like the LRT 1 Cavite Extension, the construction of Bohol, Daraga and Laguindingan airport. Also, I appreciate how extremely great his effort is in expanding the tourism of the Philippines. I think that would educate people...
