Global Business Cultural Analysis: Brazil

ABSTRACT

Brazil, one of the BRIC countries, is rapidly becoming a big contender in the world market. This emerging market has rapidly gained speed in the world market and based on 2012 estimates is currently ranked 8th with a GDP Purchasing Power Parity of $2.362 trillion by the CIA World Factbook. This paper covers many aspects of the Brazilian culture and compares that culture to the United States. Because the culture of Brazil is so inherently tied to the country’s “discovery” in the 1500’s, and had been influence by the original natives and by the influx of immigrant throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, this paper will also cover a brief introduction to Brazil, including the Geographic Regions and a brief history. This paper will also look at whether Brazil, and the rest of the BRIC countries pose a threat to the United States economy.

Introduction

Brazil, which is officially named the Federative Republic of Brazil, is a country located in South America. It is currently the fifth largest nation in the world, exceeded by Russia, Canada, China and the United States, and occupies half of South America’s land mass. With a population of 195,094,000, it is the fifth most populous nation on earth and accounts for one-third of Latin America’s population. (Encyclopaedia Britannica)

Geographic Regions

The country’s 26 states, and Federal District around the capital, were grouped into five geographic regions, by the Brazilian government: North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast and South. Each region also has its own cultural differences.
