Unit 6 Theme Analysis

Submit a narrative dealing with role of government, technology, and key entrepreneurs in this week's unit.

Government

The role of government played a very important part during this time period in history. They wanted to prevent and eliminating bias discrimination. On March 6, 1961 President John. F. Kennedy issued Executive Order 10925, which created the Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity that makes sure that projects that are financed with federal funds “take affirmative action” to ensure hiring and employment actions are free of racial bias. In 1969, initiated by President Nixon, the “Philadelphia Order” was one of the most forceful plans to guarantee fair hiring practice in construction jobs. Overall, it did take a long time, but in the long run there were thousands of entrepreneurs from all races and genders and many earned high positions too.

Before there were Equal rights, racism existed towards Hispanic, African Americans, and women. Women could not work in high position and had difficulty in getting a job, and if fortunate would be paid very low wages. Hispanic and African Americans and other races would work in farms. Overall, it did take a long time, but in the long run there were thousands of entrepreneurs from all races and genders and many earned high positions too. Examples of successful entrepreneurs would be Estee Lauder, Reginald Lewis, Oprah Winfrey, Carlos Gutierrez, and many more.

Technology

During the 1945-73 the chemical and pharmaceutical industry was growing. The first top three chemical companies were Bayer, Hoechst, and BASF all three German companies. These companies had a lot of scientists, engineers, and pioneered in dyestuffs, ammonia-based fertilizers, and synthetic drugs such as aspirin. But In World War I, America turned the table around.
