Peoples memories shape their understanding of themselves, their world and others

· With increased age and maturity, experiences are regarded differently and memories can be better explained and understood. Having memories of certain individuals present us with different situations where we did not understand why people do the things they do, or the situations they are in until we mature. · Other people's memories can manipulate our own. People who share the same experiences with others others have different recollections and interpretations of what they think happend or had a different reality of the situation at that time compared to the others who also experinced it. It helps individuals to understand what was important or most significant to them at that time and why it was so. e.g Stephan seeing Keith as good friend and barbera seiing him as a bully.

· Whilst they do not exactly shape it, memories can strengthen an individual’s understanding of themselves and the wider world as an individual selects and creates memories in keeping with their ready formed undertstanding of who they are and how the world operates.
