Technology and Communication
Communication capabilities and technology, both work hand in hand. Technology allows specialized databases to assist with criminal justice personnel to access important information fast and accurately. With so many different ways of storing and accessing important information, the best use of technology will vary from agency to agency. The databases that police departments use may not be as useful and effective for the use of the federal agencies on the boarders or airports. It is safe to say that with various types of technology, they all work together helping law enforcement to serve and protect citizens. With the use of new types of technology that is being used, there are many risks of privacy concerns and private information that may become lost or stolen. Some mobile data terminals of the technologies that are available to most law enforcement personnel is AFIS, facial recognition, live scan, and mobile data terminals that include just a few. Over periods of time, these technologies have been improved, to allow better accuracy and dependability. This allows the technologies to become more acceptable by law enforcement agencies, as well as the general public.
As far as similarities with live scan and iris scan technologies, there are only a few. The correctional system uses both of technologies. The jails and prisons use both, live scan and iris scan for inmate processing, as well as the out processing of inmates. The technology of iris scan is much quicker to show results, than live scan. The live scan has been around much longer than the iris scan. When the live scan and iris scan is used together, there are no mistakes upon releasing a prisoner.
