Six Dimensions of Health Worksheet

Part 1

For each of the following six dimensions of health, list at least one characteristic, activity, belief, or attitude that reflects that dimension in your life. Provide a brief explanation with each example. Refer to Ch. 1 in the text for explanations of these dimensions.

Physical health: Stress management, stress is what you feel when you have to handle more than you are used to. When you are stressed, your body responds as though you are in danger. It makes hormones that speed up your heart, make you breathe faster, and give you a burst of energy.

Social health: The economic and social conditions, and their distribution among the population, that influence individual and group differences in health status. Social health of a society is defined as how well the society does at offering every citizen the equal opportunity to obtain access to the goods and services critical to being able to function as a contributing member of society.

Intellectual health: Having an understanding that mostly all of us apart from some organic dysfunction in a few persons, are really quite equal but greatly affected over time by our individual environments, treatment, neglects, supports over time. It means also realizing we are all pretty much normal in having emotions, feelings along with highs and lows that continually distort our perceptions of others and also their perceptions of us. It means knowing we are all very young and experienced in truly understanding our own values and our own lives. Having this understanding but also having the desire to begin understanding our lives more so each day, will provide us with increased interpersonal/social wellness for we will begin to appreciate who we are more each day and also begin to have much more respect for those around us who may have experienced much more neglect, mistreatment, and bad experiences in their lives.
