My Personal Values

An important question that everyone must ask themselves at one point in time is: What are my values? Values define what we are and why we do what we do. They are the beliefs that are most important to us. They define who we are. Values are traits or qualities that represent your highest priorities and driving forces. For me, my personal values that are most important to me are my relationship with God. I strive to life at life that is pleasing to Him. Also, my family is very important to me and must be cherished. I also value my physical well being and ensure that through proper exercise and diet. I respect others and will not intentionally hurt them. Identifying your values and understanding why they are important to you will help you incorporate them in your everyday life. Knowing what my personal values, shapes me into the person that I am and determines how I fit into society.

When discussing my personal values, I believe it is important to first know why is it important to know what they are. For me, my personal values are holding a strong belief in ethics and treating people fairly. After reviewing my results from the Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory self-assessment test, my CORE score was “O”, which stands for obligation. My ethical perspective was evaluated as doing what is morally right. I completely agree. It also went on to say that from my perspective, “ethical principles must be appropriate under any circumstance, respectful of human dignity and committed to promoting individual freedom and autonomy.” This is right on the mark for me. I believe it is very important to look at the person and judge the intent rather than the end result of the action. I believe in right and wrong and that there are consequences for your actions.
