Creation of the archipelago

The Philippines was prehistorically part of a giant continent in the Pacific Ocean which was partially submerged when the Ice Age ended -thus melting all the ice sheets in the world and this resulted to the increase in sea level.As the sea level increased, all the former plains of the giant continent were submerged and what remained on top were the mountains and volcanoes - and one of these formed the present-day Philippine Archipelago.

Philippine Archipelago was emerged due to several huge volcanic eruptions near the equator at south pacific ocean, rocks and boulders underneath the earth's crust came out due to volcanic eruption million years ago and then created / formed a groups islands or achipelago at south pacific ocean which is "The Philippines".

Even at this era the huge volcanic eruptions frequently happened that resulted some deformations of eath surface, lately at our neighbor in Java an eruption volcano occured that killed thousands of people in Indonesia and from neigboring countries.

Origins of the Philippine archipelago date back to the Angono petroglyphs of Rizal about 40,000 years ago. Archipelagos are formed tectonically and the name is derived from the Greek word for Aegean, as in Aegean Sea. These archipelagos were formed over time by the forces and movements of the earth and gravity. The name Philippines came from King Philip II of Spain, after the land claim by the

Spanish in 1521. The three main Philippine island groups are comprised of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Peopling

The way the Philippine islands have been peopled has long been a controversial ground. As soon as they set foot on this “dust of islands” at the western edge of the Pacific Ocean, the Spaniards tried to explain the presence of different kinds of people that they respectively called Negrillos (now known as Negritos), Indios (non-Negritos pagans) and Moros (Muslims) (Colin 1903-09).
