I believe that whistle-blowing is could be good or bad that would depend on the person doing it. This has to do with ethics. When an organization is participating in practices that they know are wrong, then someone blowing the whistle would be a good ethical decision for the person, but bad for the organization. This company would lose a lot of business and possibly be forced to close due to the financial burden that would be put on the company after being found out.

It would only be good for an organization if it’s not the organizations fault and one or two people within their organization was practicing unethical behavior’s. If this is the case the company would be happy to find the deceased pieces of its organization and pluck them out, the fines would be put on the couple of people and not directly onto the company.

David Stetler does make a good point when he mentions that it’s a means to extort financial gains from the companies (Robbins&Judge, 2007p.180), while that may be true because a whistle blower could depending on the circumstances gain a certain percentage of the total fine that is accessed on a company, not all whistle-blowers will participate in this unethical practice. Unfortunately the few that do this mess things up for the ones that are serious and doing it for the right reasons.

When a whistle blower goes on searching for information to back up their claims, this could be unethical. It’s unethical because they will look for information in places that they should not be, because in order to get some of the documents that they may need, could include going into offices and other workers desk drawers or files. They may even take some information out of context just to fulfill their prophecy. They will try and convince co-workers to join in with them just to make sure that they seem credible. Therefore, it can be a difficult process for the whistle-blower to obtain information to back up their claim.
