rGender discrimination is a battlefield but the wounded aren’t always who you’d expect them to be. Growing up I learnt of the injustices that were faced by females in the past as well as the numerous measures that have been undertaken to rectify them. I had thought that we would now all be seen as equals but when one takes a closer look at society's inherent discrimination against men one might be surprised.

Oppression , discrimination, prejudice, biasness, sexism and violence are often seen as crimes that men are accused of. In such unjust courts women are the plaintiffs and men are the not so successful defendants. It’s a sad reality in which unsubstantiated statements can be made about men. This kind of behaviour can only have a negative impact upon future generations such as our sons and grandsons. Why should they suffer or have to compensate for our mistakes?

Women have succumbed to the glories of their successes and now enjoy the high-ranking status that has been provided by society. However, men’s successes aren’t met with the same enthusiasm and are often seen as grievances. The media plays a major role in displaying such injustices as well as others. We all witness it in sitcoms such The Simpsons and King of Queens where men are showcased as being incompetent and lazy.

Despite the vital role that men play in the upbringing and nurturing of children, many men are still not allowed to take paternity leave to be with their newborns. It takes two people to produce a child so why are men’s opinions not taken into consideration during abortions either? Women are protected by anonymity when they are raped but the rapist is often publically humiliated even if insufficient evidence was produced and the woman was drunk. People need to realise that not all men are rapists or child molesters and that if there is an available seat on a plane next to an unaccompanied child a male should be allowed to sit there.
