REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

The chapter deals with a review of related literature and studies that have significant to the present study. The review consists of both local and foreign literature and studies that provided the background for the solution to the problems pertinent to the study.

Local Literature

In the Philippines the studies conducted in the area of computer technology. Application and usage are in the primary stage when compared with Western Countries But according to authorities. The future of computer in the Philippines will soon be equitable to that In Western Countries. Most of the current successful companies are already using computer in their different business operations like marketing, finance and production.

According to Aquino (1987), computers have invaded many sectors of the Philippine business world, and marketing is one area of the business where the importance of computer application is increasing day by day. In the latest decades of the Millenium, winning organization are those which are willing to integrate business strategy and computer information technology in plying their respective trades. These companies are recognizable by six distinctive capabilities such as they are able to develop products fast and make decision fast, they have fluid organization structures they are engaged in joint venture and alliance, they have rapidly developed innovative approaches to cope with the demanding work force and external environment; they make effective use of computer as an integral part of organization structure; and they use information system to confirm the company’s mission and vision.

Alcuaz (1988) stated that the use of computer can give competitive advantage and improve profitability. Computer helps to increase the productivity of people. This is true whether they are working alone or working with other within a formal organization such as business corporations.
