I. The Company's CURRENT Objectives and Current Strategy

Panera Bread is a company founded in 1982 named Au Bon Pain at that time by Louis Kane and Ron Shaich. Panera Bread goal was to offer the best quality product and to be nationally recognized by its bakery-café specialty. Panera Bread’s strategy is to make bread and to make it broadly available. One of their strategy is to make there environment feel likea home away from home, where people are comfortable and relaxed. Panera focus customers were “urban workers and suburban dwellers” who were looking for fast service and more comfortable dining experience than fast food restaurant traditionally offered (Thompson & Gamble, 2009). Panera’s management believed that suburban markets potential growth is sufficient for Panera’s expansion by 17 percent in 2007. “Panera Bread strategy for growing was to capitalize on Panera’s market potential by opening both company owned and franchised Panera Bread and franchising had been the key component to Panera’s market penetration”. In 2003, the company has grown from 602 company owned and franchised; and in 2005 Panera’s sale increased by 33% and Panera’s net increased by 35%.

II. The Company's CURRENT Strengths and Weaknesses

Business is company which provides goods and services to consumer with purpose to make profits or benefits. Panera Bread strong profit is one of the company’s strength in the market. Strong growth prospects as well. The company revenues in 2003 was $363.7 million, 2004 $479.1 million, in 2005 the company revenues was $640.3 million, in 2006 the revenues grow up to $829.0 million, in 2007 their revenues grew to $1.066.7 million, in 2008 their revenues was $1,298.9 million and finally in 2009 the company revenues was $1,353.5 million.
