Adderall, not just for ADHD.

There are a variety of medications that can be offered to those diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or (ADHD) such as Ritalin, Adderall, and Dexedrine. These medications are very powerful and can be extremely harmful to those to abuse them, causing long term affects and addiction. With a rise in America of ADHD awareness in recent years more and more people are being diagnosed and more and more people are abusing and selling their medication which is leading to underground or black market type sells and heavier addiction for people without the disorder. While ADHD diagnosis is on the rise the abuse and addiction of the medication used to treat the disorder is not as widely accepted as a true issue or concern in present society and will continue to be this way if more actions are not taken to control the expanding black-market for ADHD medication.

The Center for Diseases Control and prevention or (CDC) classifies ADHD as being the most common neurological disorders (CDC 2013). ADHD affects many people all over the world and is steadily growing as more research has been done over the last few years. ADHD is most often diagnosed in school aged children. Children with ADHD show signs and symptoms such as hyperactivity, small attention spans, impulsive behavior and poor performance in school which is most commonly the place where ADHD is first discovered. The sex of the child also plays an important role in the diagnosis of ADHD. Males have been proven to be more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than females. A The Center for disease Control and prevention stated that “Boys (13.2%) were more likely than girls (5.6%) to have ever been diagnosed with ADHD.” This statistic also proves the fact that males are more likely to abuse and become addicted to either their own ADHD medication or others medication.
