APUSH – Ch. 10 Text Questions

What were the most important issues facing the new federal government, and how did the Washington administration address them?

The most important issues facing the new government were creating a national currency and bill of rights. Hamilton made the (BUS) and Madison made a bill of rights. The Washington administartion did a good job handling the creation of these things.

Some of the important obstacles that the new Federal government faced were opposition/disloyalty to strong central government, need for financial stabilization, and a leader who could set precedents for future leaders to follow. Washington displayed the power of the central government by crushing the Whiskey Rebellion, which gave the American people that didn't believe in central government relief. Washington appointed Hamilton to his cabinet which created the basis for the way finances would be run(Hamilton's Financial Plan). Washington stepped into Presidency and from the moment he began his job he was already setting up precedents for future presidents.

Explain the purpose and significance of the Bill of Rights. Did these 10 Amendments weaken or enhance federal authority? Explain in detail.

Hamilton and Jefferson had many different view on certin things. For instance Hamilton approved the National Bank,he also thought national debt was good for a country. His interpretation of the Constitution was loose while Jefferson's was strict. Jefferson thought state banks would collapse if we started to transfer our money to a National bank and he also felt this would hurt the common man or in his words the "yeoman farmer."

Jefferson supported the yeomen farmer and said that we should be agricultural based. Hamilton wanted to industrialize. They disagreed on a lot of things. Hamilton became part of Federalist party and Jeffersonians became Democratic-Republicans.
