Introduction

Managing ethics in the today’s business environment can indeed impact a community and organization. Ethics can be difficult to understand and managed. Business ethics and ethical issues are present everyday and need to be addressed.

Business Ethics

“Business ethics is the behavior that a business adheres to in its daily dealings with the world” (Dallas, 2007, p. 12). Ethics can be varied in different situations. “Many businesses have gained a bad reputation just by being a business” (Dallas, 2007, p. 12). Majority of the time, businesses are more focused on making money. Making money is not wrong, but it could be merely considered as free enterprise. Every business should represent excellent business ethics, but certain factors need to be considered. If a business or organization carries-out a business deal with another business or organization then some people would consider that this is unethical behavior. Many individuals would agree that the business has a responsibility to have good business ethics (Trevino & Nelson, 2007, para. 2). “Many major brands have been fined millions for breaking ethical business laws” (Dallas, 2007, pg. 15). When deciding what causes ethical and unethical behavior in businesses, one would have to consider money. When a business does not follow ethics within the business and do not obey the laws, most of the time they end up being fined. Over the years, businesses have broken many laws and have been fined in dollar amounts worth over thousands or even millions. The fines can be costly but not always detrimental to the success of the company.
