Information Security is one of the most important aspects in today’s business. When there is no proper information security systems in place, the company’s reputation and business could be affected. If the company cannot maintain their reputation at a good standing, it can also affect the profits that the company can potentially make. There are many security issues that need to be brought to the attention of the company.

Initial Assessment

The issues that need to be addressed are from the company’s current network. There seems to be no protection or monitoring devices from the outside sources after reviewing the network diagrams. The networks require major security revamping from outside threats, it will need a means of monitoring devices for IT prevention. Database is a major concern in this assessment, customer stock and order information are the ones most at risk. There is also a need of some kind of data encryption from both internal and external threats. The company does not own any anti-virus application to protect the system from malware applications.

It could be devastating if those customer transactions are lost or customer information gets into the wrong hands. This type of information can bring a negative impact on both the company and customers. Millions of dollars can be lost if this type of information is stolen by third parties on different aspects. Company profit can be affected if customers lose their faith in the company and therefore the company will lose business. There should be policies on who can access this type of customer information and how much information they are allowed to view, so employees cannot steal information or accidently cause problems. These policies should also address when, where and how this information be stored. Giving specific authorizations will ensure that this type of information is being safeguarded.
