Type of Golf Course Design

Golf courses can be public, private, daily-fee, municipal or hotel resort. Public courses are open to anybody who is willing to pay for a round of golf; they are common and tend to be the cheapest type. Private courses are open only to members and their guests and generally offer lifetime tenure with monthly dues. Daily fee golf courses are higher priced of public courses with some restriction on when you play. Whereas, municipal are open to anyone who is a resident of the town or city where it is located. Hotel resort courses are world class golf courses owned by high class hotels.

Typical course design include Core course, Single-fairway continuous 18 holes, Single-fairway 18 holes with returning nines, Double-fairway continuous 18 holes and Double-fairways with returning nines. Each design has its own characteristics for example in term of land consumption, frontage opportunity, flexibility or capacity as well as its maintenance cost.

Based on the brief information on some of the characteristics on the golf course design, we could see that land consumption is directly proportional to the maintenance cost. The higher the consumption of land, the higher the maintenance cost, vice versa. Frontage opportunity entails about the possibilities of having to enjoy the frontage view of golf course, as in case of clubhouse. Flexibility or capacity means the number of people that can play golf at the same time.
