Personalized Nutrition and Exercise Plan

I have to admit, nine weeks ago when I saw Nutritional Science as one of my courses at Axia College, I was not that excited, especially pursuing a computer science degree. However, I apply one hundred percent of myself to every college course with the ambition to gain knowledge. I never imagined that a Nutritional Science course could lead to a life changing experience. At first, I thought,” Nutritional Science, well, I eat nutritional and exercise regularly. I should have no problem here.” Then, a few weeks into the course, I began to analyze my eating and exercising habits along with numerous diseases that occur in individuals throughout the world. When the course arrived at the topic of diabetes, I seriously started to consider the quality of my health.

Well into the course schedule, while analyzing the details of this final project paper, I recalled an episode of extreme fatigue earlier that day at work and realized that this was not the first time it occurred. Knowing that my father is a diabetic, I identified diabetes as a health and nutritional problem that I seriously needed to target and write my final paper about. I concluded that there is two important steps I need to imply which are setting up a doctor’s appointment for a blood test and knowledge of the disease. I have made an appointment with my doctor and now it is time for knowledge.

Diabetes

There are two types of diabetes. In Type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin (American-Diabetes-Association, 2010). Insulin is a hormone needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life (American-Diabetes-Association, 2010). With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children with Type 1 diabetes can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy, happy lives.
