Fill Generator
There are five main ways I like to develop fills: 1. Adding or Removing Notes - to change the rhythm, feel or intensity. 2. Changing the Dynamics - ghost notes, accents, crescendos, or decrescendos. 3. Changing the Voice - with drums, cymbals or any auxiilary percussion. 4. The sticking patterns - making it easier to achieve speed and different feels. Using combinations of rudiments. 5. Harmony - hitting one or more voices at once.
In the rhythms that follow, you can create literally thousands of fills using these five basic approaches. I expanded pattern #1 to show you a few of the many ways I might approach it. You can develop your own library of fills with the other patterns.
