What Culture Means to Me

I am Canadian; I am Nova Scotian, that’s my culture. At least it’s part of my culture. The Canadian winters, the Canadian summers, the hockey, the igloos, the fishing, were all lumberjacks, we all drink beer, we all love Canada, and we love all the animals. Now some of those are just stereotypes and some of these are true. But they may not be true for everyone. No one has the same culture. Culture is the way you live, your everyday activities, the food you eat, the clothes you wear, the language you speak, your education, where you were born, where you live now and the way you were raised. There are many popular trends in the world today, like what I wear, the shoes I wear, the music I listen to, what I do for entertainment, the sports I play and there are many more. These trends can also be described as popular culture. This affects everyone in his or her everyday life. For example the choices they make in clothes, shoes, songs, phones, hairstyles, sports, entertainment, cars and many many more. I have learned a lot from my family like how to skate, how to cook, how to swim and many more. This is an example of traditional culture. Traditional culture can also be traditions in your family, such as Christmas. My family tradition for Christmas is all of my family goes to my grandparents and have a Christmas supper and then we open presents and I’m sure a lot of other families do this too. Another tradition would be celebrating New Years Eve. My family celebrates with all of our friends. We set off fireworks at midnight. Some people might treat this as a time to forget their unwanted passed and open up to the future. Another tradition would be business. It would be like having a family business and teaching your son or daughter how to run it and then handing it down to them and then they hand it down to their children.
