Subject: Four-10 Hour Work Days

Many employees have brought to my attention that they would like to see a four, 10 hour work days. I am submitting this request because I have done some research on the benefits of working a schedule like this and believe that this would be a benefit for Bogus Electronics and Assembly.

To start with there are already many companies like North Eastern Electronics, Inc. in Elbridge, New York, most State Employees of Utah, Anaren Microwave, Inc. in Syracuse, New York, Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland, just to name a few. In my research I found some of these benefits:

• Fewer sick days. Employees were rested from the longer weekend and they are using their Fridays for personal appointments.

• Reduced over time cost. The work is being completed in a 10 hour shift vs. an 8 hour shift. Any overtime can be done on a Friday.

• Savings on the energy bills. Utah's state offices had a 13% reduction in their energy use and employees saved as much as $6 million in gasoline costs. (Time Magazine)

• Fewer conflicts between work and family. The days may be longer but the employees will have an extra day to spend with the family.

• It reduces the greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants that is affecting the air we breathe.

• Decrease in labor costs. Employees who have almost as many days as work days to spend on their own will be much happier and more loyal. These employees who will work harder and stay longer. That means less money spent on acquiring and training new employees.

• Child care will be less for those employees with children.
