HIV and AIDS continue to be a prevalent health threat in Africa because it is made up of extremely poor third world countries. This leads to a lack of knowledge and understanding about the disease. It seems like people refuse to believe that it is a serious widespread problem in Africa, which is also why there is little education about it or how to prevent it and treat it. A woman in the documentary that was interviewed talked about how she would have to persuade other people to make the decision to get themselves tested for HIV. There is also the problem with the availability of health clinics. There is not enough spread throughout for everybody. Some people who desperately want to get treated may have to walk from their home to the nearest clinic that could be up to three or more days away. More clinics should be opened and easily accessible for the population. The cost of ARV drugs is now only 40 cents a day. Before it was barely affordable at the cost of $10,000 a year for the treatment, the lower cost is just $109.50 a year. The population of Africa needs to start getting educated about the disease at a young age. It is a serious, but preventable and treatable, disease that has killed millions of people. The ARV dramatically helps someone from being at the verge of death to becoming much healthier in just three months. More than 3 million have gotten treatment; this number can continue to grow as long as the population receives a better understanding about HIV and how to get help for it.
