Dante’s Inferno

Dante wonders in the dark forest and gets lost. Virgil is sent by Beatrice to rescue Dante and get him back on path with his life. So they take a tour through hell in which it contains nine circles. Circle one is Limbo, circle two is lustful, circle three is gluttonous, circle four is hoarders and spendthrifts, circle five is wrathful, circle six is city of dis heretics, circle seven is violence, circle eight is fraud with ten different pouches, and circle nine is treachery with four different rings on the inside.

Circle One is Limbo consisted of people the unbaptized and the virtuous pagans and those who didn’t accept Christ. Virgil was apart of this circle along with Homer and Horace to name a few. From what I read it had green fields and a castle with seven gates to represent the seven virtues. Circle Two is Lust in which it contain a lot of women; famous women at that. Like Dido, Cleopatra, and Helen of Troy. The one that Dante spoke to was Francesca Da Rimini who committed adultery. She slept with Paolo the brother of her husband Gianciotto. As their souls being blown around in a violent storm. Circle Three is Gluttonous its rain is freezing and also has hailstones as it rain down on everyone as it freezes to their necks then thaws out while being watched by Cerberus a three headed dog. Circle Four is Hoarders and Spendthrifts where greedy people and reckless people get punished together. They have to push a big wheel in an endless circle while insulting each other endlessly. Circle Five is Wrathful where you have people fighting in mud and they are trying to rip each other’s throats out. While the Sullen who are resentfully silent in life, the Sullen now are forced to recite hymns while submerged in this mud, so that their words come out only as gurgles. Circle Six is the City of Dis Heretics it was hard to visit this circle for Virgil and Dante. The demons hated that a live person was down there so they wasn’t letting them in. So god...
