Write a 100- to 200-word response to each of the following questions. Provide citations for all the sources you use.

* What is discrimination? How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?

Discrimination is defined by Racial and Ethnic Groups as the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or for other arbitrary reasons (Racial and Ethnic Groups Pg.61 Ch.3). With this in mind discrimination differs from being prejudice in a sense that prejudice is assuming something about someone with actually knowing any facts about the situation or the person. When we come to terms with stereotyping, Stereotyping is classifying a person as part of a group and labeling them.

* What are the causes of discrimination?

* I believe some of the main causes of discrimination is the lack of understanding. The human race has been born and naturally trained to be afraid of what it does not understand or fear a change of something a person has been familiar with all of their life. However I also believe discrimination can be fueled by peer pressure in schools and at work. We all try to fit in one way or another and we think that the only way to fit in is to conform to society or conform to the work environment we are placed for fear of being rejected and out casted for different beliefs.

* How is discrimination faced by one identity group (race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability) the same as discrimination faced by another? How are they different?

Each Identity group has one major thing in common. There is always going to be words and slurs used towards each Identity group. However some major discriminatory differences are involved in religious beliefs and sexual orientation. People that are involved with god are expected to be sexually...
