Communication Style

There are many individuals that use the term perception is reality. We hear it, we see it, we’ve read it and we’ve said it. There are many different ways to look at how you are perceived by your peers. Your peers can be a number of people ranging from your family members to the people that you work with. When it comes to peer-perception, this is basically what other individuals think of us. Some of the questions that you can ask yourself are do I care what others think of me or do I care how they perceive me to be? The answer in no uncertain term is usually always yes. We may say and sometimes show that we don’t really care about how our peers perceive us to be, but since we are all human and have feelings, we tend to care what and hot others thing perceive us to be.

I gave out eight of the peer perception surveys and received back five. The surveys were given to family members, friends and co-workers who I felt like would complete the survey in a timely manner.

As the individual that people are forming perceptions about, I think that you should feel good about others forming perceptions of you and about you. Any perception that is perceived as negative from your peers isn’t always a bad thing but an opportunity for you as a person to get better in the areas that someone may say is an opportunity area. As long as you have treated them the way that they should be treated, all of the answers within the survey will portray you as positive. It is important to embrace others perception of us, especially on the job. When others perceive us as not being a hard worker or a procrastinator, this can be harmful to you being promoted or being able to get the more challenging assignments. No one likes for another person to sit back and form perceptions of them, but if you can get out in front of them and control the situation, you will find that all of your peers will have...
