Technological advances over the past ten years have spiked dramatically. As a community most have started to thrive and depend on technology, always looking for an easier way to live. Others feel they are falling behind, unable to catch up with the constant stream of information. If psychologists have determined that humans are unable to multitask efficiently, than all of this technology cannot be as efficient a means as we have come to believe. New information about medical disorders caused by technology overuse have caused companies like Apple to teach their employees to set aside time to meditate and exercise their mind, whilst warning them of the disastrous effects of non stop texting and searching the internet. The effects technology has are positive as well, from new medical discoveries to making It easier to locate ourselves on a virtual globe. Yet technology pervades as negative effects continue to appear in personal aspects of an individual’s life, Social status and friendship is almost dependent on a basis of a technological community, and lastly the health of the country has proven to be incredibly affected.
In personal areas of life technology has put forth an easier accessible Moratorium. This place, as described by Erik Erikson, is a time that is mostly consequence free for doing what needs to be done or falling in and out of love with constant ideas and people(Turkle 152). The internet allows people to organize their Moratorium time, yet is less effective than having the time to think alone. Thinking promotes analytical and creative thinking, these processes are used to come to conclusions, yet instead we are bombarded with links only to find another persons creativity.
