Out of the Clouds

The definition of cloud storage is a model of networked enterprise storage where data is stored in virtualized pools of storage which are generally hosted by third parties. Hosting companies operate large data centers, and people who require their data to be hosted buy or lease storage capacity from them. The article states that a cloud is “simply a remote computer (or cluster of computers0 where your programs run and your data is stored (Allen, 2012). Some popular clouds that everyone knows of are Pandora, Netflix and your everyday email account that you use you. Clouds are used for files to be accessible when and when you need them. You can upload files of any kind through the cloud service, word processing documents, music files, spreadsheets, photographs, etc. (Allen, 2012).Clouds are good because they can transfer data from computer to computer. There’s even a software you can download that will create a folder on your CPU that will sync rite to your cloud storage. You can save work from your job office and open it up at you home computer to finish any work that you didn’t get to finish. Another good thing about cloud service is that if your home computer or work computer catches a virus and crashes you can retrieve your data from another device.

In the article cloud storage it basically talks about how we evolved from floppy disk, to cd/dvd roms to usb drive, all this physical storage to store our data to using cloud computing. “As the net's bandwidth has got faster (and download quotas fatter), cloud storage has become big business. Google is said to soon be entering the space with its own offering” (Dockhill, 2012). Some cloud storages are free such as Yahoo, Gmail and some offer free limited space and charge you at least $50 to $100 a month for example Drop Box gives you free 2gb of data storage then charges you $100 a month for 50gb and more. Apple I cloud does the same thing and SkyDrive gives you 25 GB for free....
