High Tech Offenders

High tech offenders are at large with new sophisticated technology assisting them in breaking the law with less effort and more precision to a life of crime that will enable them to continue offending from the comfort of their own homes. The question that we all ask ourselves is “where does this behavior come from? What causes a criminal to continue to do wrong?” In this essay we will discuss three theories that may help us understand how/where this behavior comes from.

In order to go more in depth into the development of bad behavior we must analyze the individual in his/her entirety. The first theory that I will be touching base in is the Sociological theory. Although sociological perspectives on crime causation are quite diverse, most build upon the following assumptions: Social groups, group dynamics, the structure of society in its relative degree, and statistics that can estimate what type of behavior to expect in a member involved in any given group.

The actions of a high tech offender can be associated with the lifestyle this individual grew up in. For example, someone from an urban neighborhood (where the education system is not to pair, and poverty is abroad) would not have the tools nor knowledge to be a high tech offender. On the other hand, someone who grew up in a decent neighborhood with his/her middle class family will have the knowledge/tools to practice along with rich families who have the funds to buy all the technology they need to successfully commit a crime, and get away with it; this would be great place to start looking for high tech offenders. Looking into the community you will find social groups who are computer related individuals that have the knowledge to commit crimes undetected and without trace.
