Critical comparison and contrast of major cultural and institutional features and predominant HR policies and practices in USA and Mexico

Aim of this essay is to present a critical comparison between cultural as well as institutional features of Mexico and USA. Moreover, this essay will also address diverse perspectives of various theorists including cultural dimensions by Hofstede, low and high contrast cultures by Hall and Hall. Moreover, this essay will also cover the institutional theory including analysis on Neo Liberal and Neo Corporatist ideologies. Furthermore, a management and ideological perspective about whether the work force and culture follow either unitarist or pluralist approach along with an insight into differences in trade unions. All these ideologies and theories will aid us in comparing and contrasting both the countries and build up a better understanding of the work culture in USA and Mexico. All the discussion deals with the human resource perspective and what implication does it have and what differences does it pose to both the countries. According to (Hofstede, 1984), USA scores low at 40 on Power Distance (See appendix) which reflects the idea of liberty and justice to the general populace with more focus on equal rights and anti-discriminatory policy towards the workforce. In addition, superiors are more accessible and free to talk since they have an open door policy which enables employees to contact employers without restrictions. The work culture comprises of participative ethos and the hierarchy is there for convenience than control. Conversely, Mexico is scored high at 81 for Power Distance which means that the supervisor or the manager is the superior and the ordering body. This high score also represents Mexico as a hierarchical society where every individual has their own place and they follow orders strictly.
