Topic Overview: Drug Use in Sports

The main question is: should performance enhancing drugs be used in sports? The top three topics that are being discussed within this question are: Health risks, the “unfair” advantage and, athletes as role models.

For the health risks the people that are Pro to performance enhancing drugs say that if normal people get to choose if they want to have a health risk or not then why don’t athletes? The people that are against performance enhancing drugs say that the drugs like steroids and other types of doping can have a bad effect on the athletes’ long-term health.

The athletes that take performance enhancing drugs have an unfair advantage. The only people that would go pro doping are the people who are doing it. The people that are against performance enhancing drugs say that the athletes take steroids do it not to level the playing field but to be better than everyone else and to win.

Athletes have been role models for many, but most of the athletes are role models to teens. The people that are pro performance enhancing drugs say that the teen boys take steroids not to look like an athlete but to look good for the girls. The people that are not in favor of performance enhancing drugs say that for many teen athletes they follow what their favorite athlete does. If their favorite athlete admits to taking steroids or doing any other doping it sends the wrong message to the teen that it is okay to take performance enhancing drugs.
