Abstract

Most individuals have their own code of ethics of what they consider to be right and wrong, and corporations, organizations and learning institutions are no different.. Code of ethics is a standard that most companies, schools, and organizations, expect of their employees, students, and members. To avoid misunderstandings, most establishments will have a written code of ethics listing everything expected and required so there is no confusion. Similar organizations may share a similar code of ethics, but the content may contain more or less information. A comparison will be made between the American Counseling Association and the American Association of Christian Counselors ethic codes. Code of ethic items, such as disclosing confidential information when danger is involved, appropriate termination of the counseling relationship, and client fees will be discussed, compared, and contrasted between the two counseling associations.

Code of ethics is what guides most counselors, therapist, and psychiatrist to ensure the right thing is always considered and done. Many of these professionals belong to organizations that ask their members to adhere to their code of ethics guidelines. After reading both the American Association of Christian Counselors and the American Counseling Association Codes of ethics, there were several similar items with the exception of a few items. One of the most important similarities shared with both is the needs of the clients are put first. The information in both codes of ethics were organized differently but mostly held the same beliefs and practices when it came to a majority of the subjects.
