Abstract

This paper explores the theories of leadership, innovation and change, and also the importance of the role of leadership in the innovation process of organizations. A leader is someone whose primary job is to manage organization and to implement the policies of organization more effectively and efficiently. A leader at the same time plan, organize and control Organization and also adopt a proactive approach to successfully face the current as well future trends and challenges which is essential to achieve a sustainable position and goodwill in the market place. On the other hand, Organization can’t remain static, and change is indispensible for its survival.

Also, this paper provides an evaluation of my successful and less successful innovation / change of which I have personal experience, related to relevant theory.

Finally, a reflection on, and assessment of, my own performance as a leader of innovation and change, this also includes a personal action plan to support my further development.

1. Introduction

Trawling the web pages and digesting many books, articles, authors and subject matter guru’s regarding leadership, innovation and creativity. There is a common perception, and that is the ‘dynamic’ nature caused due to the socio-economic and political climate, economic crash caused by the banks or global wars thrust upon the world in the guise of humanity but oft with hidden agendas, causing changes that are hard to keep abreast off.

Whereas there are number of excellent general reviews of leadership, innovation and change, each of them to some extent reflects the authors’ personal research interests

and expertise. Due to the pace of development in research, a truly broad review of leadership, innovation and change is probably impossible, and certainly beyond the scope of this paper.
