Workplace Conflict

A workplace is usually comprised of people belonging to a diverse variety of ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds. These people usually possess different personality traits and characteristics, which gives rise to a possibility that a conflict between them might occur. The fact that a workplace has a potential for inducing stress further increases the possibility of the surfacing of such conflicts.

Common Workplace Conflicts and Their Consequences

There are three most common types of workplace conflicts. The first kind includes those clashes that appear because of opposition in different people’s opinions, decisions made and other behaviors that are displayed based on their beliefs. Such a type of clash is often called a personality clash as it surfaces when two people, with a different set of personality traits, fail to get along (Psychometrics Canada Ltd., 2009)

The second most common type of conflict appears when people working together begin to rely excessively on their co-worker. This ultimately reduces their productivity and reliance on others co-operation to a greater degree, for getting their tasks done.
