1.0 Case summary

Shangri-La's Fijian Resort is a resort-hotel located at Yanuca Island. It was one of the grand names of the Shangri-La International Hotel Group. The Fijian was enjoyed the strong and good reputation through the world, especially in some region such as Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific region. Fijian has around 450-room resort and more than 800 local staff payroll. Fijian society is complex and complicated through the evolution of thousands of years. Most of employees are indigenous people, and took the front line department. Even three generations of a family work in the hotel simultaneously.

Brett Taylor, the general manager and owner of Fijian, he faced a problem that is very hard to solve which relate to the local custom and practices. One of his staff, Salome took some money by using her position and it was allowed and understandable. She used the money to build church. Moala Tukana was being one of the company assets for his dedication, talent, and good performance in the work field. It was his responsibility to audit staffs in case of stealing occurred. However, the Hotel Workers’ Union appealed that the money stolen was not for Salome own use, she was to raise funds for the church building. Mola Tukana worked as top leadership, he did not fulfill their responsibilities and abetted the crime. Brett Taylor was definitely needed to consider about it without being unfair with the other staff and keep strict to the rules.

2.0 Problem Statement

The main problem is that the employee breaks the work’s codes of ethics and misbehaviors.
