Harley Quinn: Maiden on Mischief

Harley Quinn’s original identity was Harleen Frances Quinzel. She grew up in a lower middleclass home with her strict mother and younger brother. Her father was always moving in an out of jail for conning women out of their money. Even with a dysfunctional family, Quinn was able to overcome such limitations because of her high I.Q. and ambition. She graduated in the top ten percent of her graduating class and was at an Olympic level with her gymnastics. After high school, Quinn attended Gotham State University under a gymnastic scholarship. Here she studied psychology and proposed a radical thesis to her professor: “There are only two circumstances under which a person disregards the rules of society, when they commit a crime or when they're in love.” She used her boyfriend, Guy Kopski, as a means to test her thesis. He died because of the experiment although it is unclear if Harley pulled the trigger to the gun that killed him. Quinn went on with her life and finished her education, earning a Ph.D. Starting her residency at Arkham Asylum, Quinn requested to meet the Joker under the pretense of writing a book about serial killers. The Joker spun a tale about an abusive and miserable childhood the proceeded to feed the tale to Quinn. She immediately began to sympathize with him. Each time she saw The Joker, he was beaten by The Batman or being hated by the other Psychologists at the Asylum. Taking advantage of her naivety, The Joker manipulated her feelings until she believed he was only a mistreated and misunderstood individual, falling in love with him. The Joker however treated her similarly to how her father treated women: as a tool. She served as the instrument that freed the Joker from the Asylum, as a henchwoman that could be where the Joker could not,...
