Work Team Effectiveness: Ecologically in Google.

Groups of people working together toward a common goal with satisfaction and a willingness to continue to contribute are known as a team. The team is effective because the people are viable and productive. Kreitner and Kinicki also inform that there are ecological teams, those that work within the ecology of the organization. Being nurtured and facilitated by the organization, increasing the overall effectiveness of the team (2004). As one of the leaders in the internet search engines Google has developed not only an atmosphere of nurture, but also of shared goals (Lreitner and Kinicki 2004).

The culture of Google is shared by all the employees. Employees are encouraged to come up with new ideas, and seek out the smallest of changes. These changes benefit the company as a whole and also the employee; acting as a learning agent, and self assessment tool. When working together as is often done, the groups, or high density clusters, aren’t just people working, but a cohesive bond. Those working one a project share the same desire and purpose. The same work space is shared allowing communication to be open and diverse.

Responsibility of an idea or issue does not fall on the shoulders of one, but the whole team takes a piece of the pie. While Google is the first and foremost search engine tool, thanks to the dedicated team, the company does not forget that we are all just people. With the other perks offered by the company, (free lunches, power nap chairs and toys that one can play with when they need a break), the environment is often informal. Creating connections that are external as well as internal, through a myriad of different actives keeps the employees in a comfortable work-life balance.

Google, in understanding that every Googler is an equally important part of the success (google 2010), has given the teams that work together the necessary tools to be integral in the company’s success....
