It’s Education, Stupid!

SUMMARY

The article talks about how education is “broke” because the education we are being offered is continuously restricting the country to step forward. It was mentioned that education is becoming a barrier to the economic and social growth of the Philippines. Education offered in the society today creates separation between social groups simply because money dictates what quality of education you can obtain. The article also expanded on how the educational system of the Philippine society mainly concentrates on language and mathematics because it is thought to be the most difficult fields to master. It was explained that though this is the major foci of education in the Philippines, not every job or career that certain individuals take do not revolve around these fields. It was also said that the educational system of the country only orients children to look for jobs instead of creating jobs for them and for others. The author made mention of entrepreneurship as a way of expanding the economy of the country by making use of the information being given to the students. In the last part of the article, it was explained that it is important to use the knowledge gained through education as means to impart wisdom and practice values. The author recognized the importance of gaining values that will enable us to build the economy and solve the problems of the country.

ANALYSIS

The author cited examples of situations in order to support his points. He also used the method of explaining his experiences and commonly used terms to define certain things. One of the points of the author is that the government is not prioritizing education when it should be the field that is most focused on.
