Introduction:
This project will allow the student to gain experience with the different lineweights and linetypes used in the architecture and design professions.
Sheet Layout:
The drawing will be executed on an 81/2" x 11" sheet of vellum.
Landscape orientation, ¾” margin on sides. 1” margin on top.
Create title block along bottom of page, 1” high.
Provide project # on the left, date in the center, and your name on the right.
Instructions for Constructing the Lines:
On the left is a series of 12 horizontal lines. Each line is 5” long. Provide ½” between every line.
First 3 lines are a very fine line used for quidelines or layout. This is created with a 4H lead
Second group are light lines used for hatching, dimensions and patterns. This is created with a 2H lead
Third group is a medium line used for main lines in drawings. This is created with a 2H lead
Fourth group of dark lines, used for profiles and lettering. Created with an F lead.
On the right is a series of 8 vertical lines. Each line is 5 ½” tall. Provide ½” between every line.
Use a medium lineweight for each line with a 2H lead.
First 2 rows are a small dash. Spacing is done by eye.
Second set are a large dash, again spaced by eye.
Third set is a dash-dot- dash, used for construction lines.
Fourth set is a dash-dot-dot-dash, used for property lines.
Grading:
Grading will be based on accuracy of measurements for all lines and margins, and consistency and quality of all linework. There should be 4 distinct lineweights and 2 distinct linetypes. Project 1 is worth 5% of total grade.
